AMMAN, Jordan, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Turkey's president says the nations of the Middle East should settle the Palestinian question without relying on "outside" parties such as the United States.
"We must solve our regional problems without resorting to major powers outside the Middle East such as the USA and Britain," said President Abdullah Gul. "We must be aware of the fact that we are the owners of the region."
Al-Jazeera said Wednesday that Gul told a Jordanian newspaper he considered Turkey to be among the Middle East family due to its historic cultural ties to the region.
He also said Turkey would not be shy about expressing its objections to Israeli policies.
