HARARE, Zimbabwe, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- A 35-year-old Indian man is facing allegations he failed to have a license or permit to carry seven diamonds in his possession, Zimbabwean authorities said.
The Herald said Wednesday that Indian national Mannemala Deni Kamar Reddy is accused of violating a section of the Precious Stones Act by allegedly being in possession of diamonds without the proper documentation.
After appearing before a magistrate in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare, Reddy was ordered to turn over his travel documents to the court to prevent him from fleeing the country.
The Indian national, who was remanded out of custody until Dec. 15, was also ordered to stay at his hotel room until his case ends.
Reddy, who is from India's Pluru Village, is accused of having seven diamonds hidden under his hotel room bed. The diamonds were allegedly found by police detectives after the authorities received information on Nov. 27 that Reddy was selling illegal diamonds, the Herald said.
The value of the diamonds has not yet been determined.
