MANCHESTER, England, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- A British religious education teacher has been sentenced to prison for having sex with a 15-year-old boy she had been mentoring, authorities said.
Madeleine Martin, 39, pleaded guilty to charges of sexual conduct with a child under 16 and was sentenced to 32 months, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday.
Martin was asked to mentor the boy at the Manchester school where she worked, then gave him gifts and sent messages on the Internet social network Facebook. She admitted having sex with him on three occasions, the British newspaper said.
The boy told his brothers about the brief affair, and they informed their mother, who contacted police, the newspaper reported.
"You started to abuse the trust you were entrusted with," presiding judge Jonathan Gaeke told Martin. "Eventually you lured him into intimacies which should never have happened. You are to blame, not him."
