Rebels derail Indian train, 2 die

TATANAGAR, India, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Maoist rebels derailed a passenger train in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand early Friday, killing two people and injuring 47 others, police said.

Eight coaches of the train were derailed after a portion of the track between Tatanagar and Bilaspur was blown up, the BBC reported.

Rebels are fighting for communist rule in more than 223 of India's 600-some districts across 20 states. More than 6,000 people have died during the rebels' 20-year fight.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described the Maoist insurgency as the single largest threat to the country.
