Missing armored car driver surrenders

PARIS, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- An armored car driver accused of stealing more than $16 million in a French heist has turned himself in, police in Monaco say.

Monaco police director Andre Mulhberger said Toni Musulin walked into a police station in the principality Monday, announced he was wanted by French authorities and surrendered, ending a sensational real-life drama followed by thousands, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Mulhberger told the newspaper that Musulin, 39, looked in good shape for being on the run since the Nov. 5 robbery in Lyon, France, in which authorities say he drove off in an armored car holding $16 million. Because there was no international arrest warrant for him valid in Monaco, Musulin voluntarily left the country and entered France, where he was reportedly arrested by French police.

The French news channel iTele carried a statement by a man claiming to be Musulin's lawyer, who said the armored car driver was not a criminal and surrendered because he felt remorse, the Journal reported.
