$840,000 in jewels stolen in Scotland

GLASGOW, Scotland, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Authorities said they are looking for those responsible for the theft of nearly $840,000 in jewelry from a Glasgow train traveling from Scotland to London.

Detective Constable Raymond Grimley of British Transport Police said the made-to-order jewelry was being transported to London King's Cross service inside the luggage of a 64-year-old jeweler on Nov. 5, the Glasgow Herald said Monday.

The jeweler, whose identity was not released, contacted police after discovering both the jewelry and the luggage had been stolen before the train reached Motherwell, Scotland.

"The stolen jewelry is unique and unusual in design and therefore extremely valuable," Grimley said. "I am appealing for anyone who was on the train and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to come forward."

The Herald said among the stolen jewelry items were bracelets, pendants and rings made out of gold, platinum and palladium.
