Seven dead in Russian apartment fire

BALAKHNA, Russia, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Seven people died and another was injured Tuesday in a fast-moving fire in an apartment complex in Balakhna, Russia, police said.

Parties were taking place in two of the wooden building's eight units when the fire erupted about 1 a.m., said Svetlana Petrova, a spokeswoman for emergency services in the Volga region.

Seven people were reported dead at the scene and an eighth person, a woman, was hospitalized with serious injuries, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.
