MOSCOW, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Russia and Ecuador will cooperate in the fields of energy production and nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, government officials say.
A declaration on strategic cooperation was signed by the presidents of the two countries, Dmitry Medvedev and Rafael Corria, in the Kremlin Thursday, ITAR-TASS reported.
The agreements signed in Moscow also included language on communications technology, hydropower projects and mutual aid in customs affairs. Russia also agreed to supply two military transport helicopters to Ecuador, ITAR-TASS said Friday.
Medvedev said he is satisfied with the results of his talks with Correa. He called the documents "a base for the development of relations in the future." Russia plans to develop full-scale relations with other Latin American countries as well, he said.
"Relations between Russia and Latin American states have considerably strengthened lately. We make sense of it because we want to develop full-scale relations with this continent," Medvedev stressed.
