KYODO, Japan, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Doctors have invited a 1-month-old Indonesian 20-pound boy to Japan to study his development, the Japanese Medical Association said.
The baby's journey will be sponsored by a Japanese television network, the Kyodo News Agency reported Sunday, adding that some of the baby's neighbors fear he will be exploited by Japanese media and physicians.
Akbar Risuddin, born on Sept. 21, became Indonesia's heaviest newborn at 19.18 pounds and 24.4 inches long. His weight is currently 19.84 pounds.
The baby was delivered by his diabetic 41-year-old mother through a complicated Caesarean section due to his size.
The previous record holder in Indonesia was a baby weighing a little over 15 pounds born last year in the town of Karanganyar in Central Java Province.
The heaviest baby ever, weighing 23.8 pounds, was born to Canadian Anna Bates in 1879 but the baby died 11 hours after birth.
