UNION ISIDORO MONTES DE OCA, Mexico, July 13 (UPI) -- Authorities in Mexico what could be the remains of missing U.S. biker Harry Devert, who disappeared six months ago in a dangerous region of the state of Michoacan.

Law enforcement officials found Devert's green Kawasaki bike Friday in a shallow grave along a dirt road leading to La Majahua beach in Union Isidoro Montes de Oca. The vehicle identification number on the motorcycle matched that of Devert's, his mother, Ann Devert said.

Nearby they found the badly decomposed remains of a man's body wrapped in plastic.

Investigators plan to do DNA testing to confirm the identity of the body.

Deverts left his Westchester, N.Y., home last year to travel to Mexico in order to visit a beach where the last scene of The Shawshank Redemption was filmed.

He was last heard from in January when he sent his girlfriend an ominous message from his phone.

"Just got an hour and a half long escort out of some area it was too dangerous for me to be," the message said. "Stopping for lunch and ... voila Internet. ... Gonna get back on the road soon. Apparently there's another military escort waiting for me in some other town... I'm running way late because of the crazy military stuff...hopefully get a chance to talk to you tonight when I (hopefully) finally arrive," the message read.
