Baltimore tornado rips across harbor, damages warehouse

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

At least two tornadoes hit the Baltimore area on Monday as part of a severe weather system spreading up and down the east coast. According to the Baltimore Sun, one tornado tore the roof off of a warehouse as it ripped its way across the city's famous harbor.

Witnesses watched the tornado -- also known as a spout when it crosses water -- tear part of the roof off a 300,000-square-foot warehouse in Locust Point.

"I was about 80 feet up in the air and watched the whole thing from the beginning,” a crane operator said. “It looked farther away and then it made a turn toward us and that's when it took off that roof.”

“It looked like birds at first, but then I realized the way they were behaving did not look like birds,” attorney Steve Fogleman said. “It looked like sheets of vinyl siding.”
