Sept. 28 (UPI) -- A toddler at a Dearborn, Mich., in-home day care shot two other children, hospitalizing them, local police said.
Dearborn police Lt. Gary Mann said one 3-year-old sustained a gunshot wound in the shoulder and was expected to make a full recovery. Another 3-year-old was in serious but stable condition after sustaining a gunshot to the face. The boys appeared to have been hit by the same bullet.
"We're going to pray that these two young kids are going to be OK," Dearborn police Chief Ron Haddad said. "However it shakes out, it's a tragedy for our entire community, and this isn't something that anybody plans to occur. So I would just say that at this time we just want to hope and pray for the best for the young people involved and the rest will take care of itself."
The shooting happened Wednesday at a day care run by Tim Eubanks and Samantha Eubanks in their home. The toddler who found the gun and fired it was 2 or 3 years old.
There were a total of six or eight children in the residence at the time of the shooting, including some of the homeowner's children. The children who lived at the residence were moved to live with relatives. No one has been arrested.
Police said they interviewed the woman who was babysitting the children as well as toddlers at the scene.
