Trumps welcome Argentina President Mauricio Macri to White House

April 27 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump on Thursday hosted Argentine President Mauricio Macri and Argentine first lady Juliana Awada at the White House to discuss enhancing relations between countries.

The Trumps met the Argentine leader and his wife at the South Lawn entrance of the White House, where U.S. officials said the leaders will discuss how to deepen relations, as well as issues such as trade, security and Venezuela's economic and political crisis.

Trump and Macri are previously acquainted from their days as businessmen prior to their entry into politics.

At an Oval Office media photo opportunity, Trump called Macri "my good friend for many years."

Trump also said the leaders would discuss Argentine lemons. The Trump administration recently postponed a decision by former President Barack Obama to end a 16-year ban on the import of lemons from Argentina.

On Wednesday, Macri was in Houston, where he delivered a speech at a meeting of leaders of oil companies hosted by the Argentine Institute of Oil and Gas.
