April 23 (UPI) -- McCain Foods USA, Inc., voluntarily recalled frozen hash brown products that may contain "extraneous golf ball materials," the U.S. Food & Drug Administration announced.

The recall concerns two-pound bags of Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns distributed under the Roundy's and Harris Teeter labels after Jan. 19, the FDA said Friday in a news release.

The Roundy's products were distributed at Marianos, Metro Market and Pick 'n Save supermarkets in Illinois and Wisconsin. The Harris Teeter products were distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia and Maryland.

The affected production code on the back of the packaging is B170119.

No injuries have been reported but the FDA warned "consumption of these products may pose a choking hazard or other physical injury to the mouth." Consumers are urged to throw the products away or return them to where they were purchased.

Consumers with questions about the recall should contact McCain Foods USA, Inc. at 630-857-4533 from Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT.

McCain, a Canadian-based company founded in 1957, has 11 plants in the United States, six in Canada and 30 elsewhere. The company said on its website one in every three french fries in the world is produced by the company. Its total production capacity is more than 1 million pounds of potato products per hour.
