April 22 (UPI) -- An air marshal aboard an international flight bound for New York City left her gun in the plane's bathroom where it was subsequently found by a passenger, the airline said.

The incident happened aboard a Delta Airlines flight from the United Kingdom to JFK on April 6. After the air marshal forgot her gun, a passenger found it and gave it to a member of the flight crew, who then returned it to the marshal without incident.

Delta reported the incident to the air marshal's supervisor at the Transportation Security Administration days later, CNN reported.

The unidentified air marshal, who was new on the job, has not been suspended and continues to work security aboard flights. Typically, someone found to have breached security measures in such a situation would be suspended while the Federal Air Marshal Service investigates the incident, CNN said.
