April 6 (UPI) -- A Secret Service agent was suspended after meeting with a prostitute at a Maryland hotel, the agency acknowledged Thursday.

The incident, which was first reported by CNN, happened late last week. The agent, who has not been named, was off-duty at the time. He was charged with solicitation after the hotel manager called police to report suspicious behavior.

After he was charged, the agent self-reported the incident to the Secret Service and was suspended from duty.

The agency, which endured an embarrassing prostitution scandal in 2012 after nearly a dozen agents were caught partying with prostitutes while on duty in Colombia, said it is investigating the matter.

"We are exploring the full range of disciplinary actions," a Secret Service spokesperson said.
