April 1 (UPI) -- An April Fools' Day winter storm may bring heavy, wet snow to parts of the northeastern United States. The National Weather Service said a wintry mix of snow, rain, and ice is likely to persist throughout the Northeast before changing to all snow on Saturday night.

Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories were issued for parts of New England, upstate New York and northeast Pennsylvania.
Portions of Vermont, Massachusetts and New York may see a minimum of six inches of snowfall by Saturday night.
High terrain areas in New Hampshire between the cities of Nashua and Keene may experience between 12 and 18 inches of snow while the southernmost portion of Maine could receive between six and 10 inches.
Sleet and freezing rain is also possible and about two inches in rainfall may occur in the Northeast causing potential for a patchy accumulation of ice.
Ice accumulations can make travel difficult in certain areas. Wet snow and ice on trees threaten to damage power lines resulting in possible power outages.
