March 24 (UPI) -- The Department of Defense announced the death of Air Force Staff Sgt. Alexandria Mae Gleason Morrow, who died in a non-combat role earlier this week.

Gleason-Morrow, 25, died Wednesday while performing maintenance duties in Jordan in support of combat operations, a Defense Department statement said. The incident is under investigation.

She was a resident of Dansville, N.Y., serving in the Middle East with the 366th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron of Mountain Home Air Base in Idaho. Her mother told WHEC-TV, Rochester, that she died while loading a bomb onto an airplane.

She was a married mother of two children -- ages 2 and 4 -- and was on her second deployment. She had been in Jordan since October.

The American flag hung Thursday at half-staff at Dansville, N.Y., High School in Gleason-Morrow's honor, and an artwork she created while attending the school has been on display since her senior year. She graduated in 2009.

"When you look back on the high school you graduated from, and the class you came from, you may remember a few people," commented School Superintendent Paul Alioto. "Maybe folks you didn't know well but they embodied that class. She was one of those kids."
