Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The Dow Jones Industrial Average finally came out of the stratosphere on Tuesday, ending a dozen straight days of setting new record highs and just missing another historic mark.

The blue chip index fell 25 points, a modest loss, to close at 20,812.24. For 12 days previous, the index set new highs each successive day.

Tuesday, the Dow had a chance to set the all-time record for 13 straight record-setting trading days.

In the Dow's 120-year history, it reached a streak of 12 days only twice before Monday.

"Needless to say, a lot of hope is built into this speech tonight," Michael Block, chief market strategist at Rhino Trading, said in a statement.

The S&P 500 fell 6 points Tuesday and the Nasdaq dropped 36.
