Four people found dead at home in Preston, Idaho

Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Authorities in Preston, Idaho, found four people dead inside of a home from apparent gunshot wounds, Preston Police Chief Ken Geddes said.

Geddes said officers were called to the scene of the incident at about 5 p.m. on Sunday.

"Officers confirmed that there were four individuals dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside the home," Geddes said in a press release, adding there is no threat or danger to the public.

The Preston Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Idaho State Police launched a joint investigation. Officials will release the identities of the deceased at a later date.

Prior to the incident, Idaho had a murder rate of 1.8 killings per 10,000 people -- among the lowest in the United States. Idaho has a population of about 1.6 million.
