Feb. 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Northeast dealt with another major winter storm on Monday, as some areas in New England now have about two feet of snow -- and another round is expected to arrive Tuesday.

The coastal winter storm along the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions brought strong winds to locations including Boston, Philadelphia, New York City and Washington, D.C.

The Northeast was pounded last week by a winter storm that brought substantial snow totals to the region. Cary, Maine, had 30 inches of snow by early Monday.

RECOMMENDED Beware heart attack risk from shoveling snow

Winter storm warnings were in effect in most of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine.

Between 8 and 16 inches of snow were expected to fall from New York state through northern Maine. Up to 50 mph wind gusts are expected in the region. The coastline on Cape Cod Bay could see moderate to locally major coastal flooding and beach erosion on Monday, The Weather Channel reported.

Several schools were closed in Boston for the third consecutive school day Monday.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker ordered non-emergency state executive branch employees to come into work at 11 a.m. Monday to allow for road cleanup crews to operate.

"As you begin to travel tomorrow, minimize distractions & please plan ahead. Motorists should stay behind plows in the travel lane," Baker said in a statement Sunday.

Another round of winter weather was forecast to arrive Tuesday and possibly last into Thursday, the Weather Channel reported.
