Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Former Goldman Sachs executive Steven Mnuchin, Donald Trump's pick to serve as secretary of treasury, will face a Senate confirmation hearing Thursday.

The Senate Finance Committee hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Opening statements will be delivered by Chairman Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, and Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore.

Mnuchin, 53, worked for investment bank Goldman Sachs for nearly 20 years before leaving the banking industry and moving to California to start a new career as a film financier. He went on to found RatPac-Dune Entertainment and produce big-budget films like Avatar, the X-Men film franchise and Suicide Squad.

Though Mnuchin has years of finance experience, he has no government experience. He served as the Trump campaign's finance chair for the past six months. He will likely be questioned over his banking experience, his thoughts on tax cuts and government regulation and his private investments, from which he has vowed to divest himself.
