ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The wife of Orlando Pulse nightclub gunman Oman Mateen was arrested Monday in connection to the June shooting that left 49 dead, the FBI said.

Noor Salman was taken into custody in the San Francisco area, where her family lives. Salman, who married Mateen in 2011, has come under scrutiny as authorities investigate the shooting at the gay nightclub that also left more than 50 injured. Salman reportedly gave conflicting accounts about her knowledge of Mateen's intensions in the hours before the shooting. Mateen is said to have texted his wife during the shooting.

"I can confirm the arrest did occur," Attorney General Loretta Lynch said on MSNBC."This is a matter that we continue to take very seriously."

Details of the arrest and charges have not been made public, but several news organizations reported she was arrested on a charge of obstruction. She is expected to make her first appearance in federal court on Tuesday in California.
