NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Vice presidential candidate Mike Pence's plane had a rough landing Thursday night after overshooting a runway at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

The Pence plane slid off runway 22 at LaGuardia as it was landing in New York, however there were no injuries to the candidate, passengers or members of the crew.

The plane was coming from Fort Dodge, Iowa, where takeoff had been delayed because of bad weather in New York, and made a rough impact upon landing, with passengers reporting the pilot slammed on the brakes and that they could smell burning rubber.

Members of the press, sitting at the back of the plane, said they could feel it fishtailing and sliding off the runway before stopping suddenly in grass. Pence said mud hit the cockpit windows.

Pence and the passengers exited through the back of the plane after it stopped.

"So thankful everyone on our plane is safe," Pence tweeted after the slippery landing. "Grateful for our first responders and the concern and prayers of so many. Back on the trail tomorrow!"

Pence missed a fundraiser at Trump Tower because of the delay and landing and was taken to his hotel for the evening. The candidate's schedule for Friday was not expected to change, his press secretary said.

LaGuardia has had problems with its runways before, as a passenger jet skidded off a runway in March 2015 during a mix of rain and snow, crashing into a fence and stopping with its nose on the seawall over Flushing Bay. About two dozen people were injured in the crash.
