LAS VEGAS, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Donald Trump landed his first endorsement from a major daily newspaper, earning the backing of the Las Vegas Review Journal on Tuesday.

The newspaper, with a daily circulation near 200,000, became the first major U.S. newspaper to back Trump in the country.

The Review Journal said Trump is a natural response to an electorate angry with the status quo in Washington.

"Mr. Trump ... brings a corporate sensibility and a steadfast determination to an ossified Beltway culture. He advocates for lower taxes and a simplified tax code, in contrast to his opponent's plan to extract another $1 trillion from the private economy in order to enlarge the bureaucracy. Mr. Trump understands and appreciates the conditions that lead to prosperity and job creation and would be a friend to small business and entrepreneurship. Mrs. [Hillary] Clinton has spent most of her adult life on the public payroll," the editorial states.

Several traditionally Republican-leaning editorial boards have either declined to endorse either candidate or, in a handful of instances such as the Arizona Republic, the Detroit News and the Dallas Morning News, have stepped out in favor of Clinton.
