FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A man was arrested in Texas for allegedly scaling the capitol building, breaking in and damaging a painting, say police who caught the man.

Tanner Christian Graeber was arrested by Texas Department of Public Safety officers early Sunday morning after an officer reportedly spotted him illegally entering the State Capitol, charging him with burglary and criminal mischief for doing so.

The officers say they saw Graeber walking along a temporary wooden walkway, constructed for renovations to the building, around 3:27 a.m. Sunday morning before losing sight of him.

Minutes later, he was spotted again climbing scaffolding on the south side of the Capitol, before breaking a window and entering the second floor of the building.

Police say he "intentionally" damaged a portrait of former Texas Governor Fletcher Stockdale, who served in 1865 from May through August during the Civil War.
