SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The wildfire in the mountains near Santa Cruz, Calif. has grown to 4,147 acres and is 34 percent contained, Cal Fire said Thursday.

The so-called Loma Fire has destroyed eight homes, nine other buildings and damaged another home since it broke out on Monday. A winery is one of the areas scorched by the fire.

A firefighter has been injured, but Cal Fire did not disclose the firefighters condition.

High temperatures and dry conditions continue to work against firefighters, but an onshore wind of cooler, moist air is expected to help considerably.

"The weather is a little bit cooler than it was earlier in the week, but it's still warm," Bill Murphy with the Santa Clara County Fire Department said. "Humidity at the top of the ridges is still low so we do continue to have active fire behavior."
