Hillary Clinton to get first question in presidential debate

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Details of Monday's presidential debate have been released, with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton to get the first question.

In the debate format, Clinton will have two minutes to answer and Republican nominee Donald Trump will have two minutes to respond. This will be followed by 10 minutes of open conversation and debate.

Clinton's podium will be on the left and Trump's on the right.

The first debate of the election season will be moderated by NBC News' Lester Holt at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, and is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern.

The 90-minute, commercial-free debate will be broken into six, 15-minute segments, according to the Commission on Presidential Debates. Two segments will be devoted to each of three themes: America's Direction, Achieving Prosperity and Securing America.

The debate will include an audience of 1,000 viewers with the biggest blocks going to the two campaigns and Hofstra. The university plans to give all of its tickets to students.

During presidential debates, outbursts from the audience -- including cheering and booing -- are not permitted.

The debate will be televised by all the broadcast and cable news networks.
