BALTIMORE, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Baltimore police said a Saturday night shooting in which gunfire struck eight people, including a 3-year-old, was in retaliation for a shooting on Labor Day that killed one person.

The shooting, which involved one person armed with a shotgun and two with handguns, took place about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of Preston Street. The attackers fled on foot, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin David and Police spokesman T.J. Smith spoke at a news conference from the scene and said none of the injuries was life threatening.

David said officers, based on the information they have gathered, are "very comfortable" saying the attack was retaliation for the Labor Day incident. An arrest has been made in that case

The shootings were a premeditated act in connection to the Labor Day incident which also resulted in two people being wounded, including a pregnant woman, Fox News reported.

He said the shooters converged on the group in front of some row houses, coming from different directions. "They stopped short of the crowd and began firing."

David said the victims might have recognized the gunmen, but police have yet to identify the suspects and are still searching for them.
