NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Donald Trump on Thursday said the moderators in the three presidential debates should not try to fact-check the candidates and let them sort out the inaccuracies on their own. Trump, speaking to Fox News, said moderators, including NBC's Lester Holt who will preside over Monday's debate, should let the candidates challenge each other on the facts, rather than interrupt the debate to point out inaccuracies.

"I mean, if you're debating somebody and if she makes a mistake or I make a mistake ... we'll take each other on," he added. "But I certainly don't think you want Candy Crowley again."
Trump referenced Crowley, a CNN reporter who moderated one of the 2012 debates between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Crowley interjected in an exchange between Romney and Obama when Romney accused Obama of failing to label the killing of four Americans in Benghazi as a terrorist attack. Crowley corrected Romney, saying Obama had referred to the incident as an act of terrorism, though it took him two weeks to do so.
Crowley was criticized by Romney supporters for appearing to favor Obama.
"I really don't think you want that," Trump said. "That was a very pivotal moment in that debate. And it really threw the debate off and it was unfair. No, I think you have to have somebody that's just -- let them argue it out."
