Poll: Nearly a quarter of U.S. citizens say debates will have 'major' impact on vote

NEW YORK, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- About a quarter of American voters will look to the upcoming presidential debates to give them some direction in how they vote in November, a new survey shows.

According to the poll from ABC News and SSRS research, about 23 percent of respondents said they expect the debates to have a major impact on whether they vote for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton on Nov. 8.

The greatest impact will be made on female voters (28 percent), according to the survey. Conversely, only 18 percent of those who answered that way were males.

Thirty-five percent said the debates will have no impact, and 42 percent said they will have a minor impact.

Nearly three-quarters answered that they plan to watch the first debate on Sept. 26 at New York's Hofstra University. Three presidential debates and one vie presidential debate will be held before election day.
