Fishing boat runs aground under Golden Gate Bridge, 15 rescued

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Fifteen people aboard a 50-foot fishing vessel were rescued after the boat struck rocks along the shoreline near San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

The charter fishing boat, the New Seeker, took on water as it passed near the northern end of the bridge, and ran aground, Marin County Sheriff's deputies said. The Sheriff's Office worked with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Marin County Fire Department to rescue those on the boat, who had planned on a day of salmon fishing.

"It [the boat] started coming into the shore and got kind of beached and it looked like it took on some water and the next thing we know, there is the Coast Guard and firemen," witness Cherie Azzopard told KGO-TV, San Francisco.

All those aboard were taken to Fort Baker, a former Army installation now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, for questioning. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
