Six sustain electrical shocks on ride at Connecticut amusement park

NEW LONDON , Conn., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Six children were injured were they received electrical shocks from a ride at a Connecticut amusement park, police said.

Police and fire personnel responded to a call Tuesday afternoon at Ocean Beach Park in New London. The operator of a ride called the Scrambler said he felt a tingling sensation when he pressed a button to stop the ride, and several people aboard the ride reported to police they felt a similar tingling sensation. A boy also touched a metal fence as he exited the ride and got minor burns.

State police said an initial investigation revealed the injured received electrical shocks from the ride.

Six children aboard the ride were taken to New London's Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. None had injuries regarded as serious, police said.

All rides at the park were shut down until the city's electrical inspector and the state fire marshal finish an investigation of the incident.
