Minor injuries after Metrorail train derails in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, July 29 (UPI) -- Metrorail in Washington, D.C., on Friday suspended services on parts of the Orange and Silver lines following a train derailment at the East Falls Church Metro station.

About 75 people were on the train when it derailed at about 6 a.m., Metro Transit Police said. No major injuries were reported but two passengers were evaluated by medics for minor injuries.

"Orange/Silver customers west of Ballston encouraged to use alternate travel options this morning due to derailment at East Falls Church," Metrorail said in a statement.

The East Falls Church Metro station was closed and bus shuttles were sent to the location.

Metrorail said delays can be expected on the Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Silver and Orange lines.

"All passengers offloaded without further incident," Metro Transit Police said in a statement. "Two cars are derailed, remaining upright and in line. Use alternate travel modes."
