PHILADELPHIA, July 27 (UPI) -- Outgoing U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid addressed the Democratic National Committee on Wednesday, thanking delegates for their support and encouraging them to "keep fighting."

The former amateur boxer told voters that Democrats are the politicians who are in their corner.

"With Hillary in the White House and a majority in the Senate, Democrats will keep fighting," Reid said. ''Since my boxing days, I've fought my share of fights. In my 50 years of fighting for Nevadans, I've also realized a leader is also a corner man, someone who stands on your side and has your back in a fight.

"Democrats stand in your corner."

Reid also attacked his Senate counterpart, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

"I have never seen anything more craven than Mitch McConnell and what he's done to our democracy," he said. "The only thing Republicans like Mitch McConnell have accomplished is setting the stage for a hateful con man like Donald Trump. Parents, you're right to worry about your children hearing what comes out of Donald Trump's mouth. Republicans, you should be careful also. Donald Trump learned it from watching you."

Reid is retiring from the Senate at the end of the year.
