FBI arrests suspected mobster over Boston club owner's 1993 death

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 27 (UPI) -- A suspected Rhode Island mobster was arrested by FBI agents Monday for allegedly interfering in the federal investigation of a 1993 murder, authorities said.

Robert DeLuca was taken into custody in South Florida, officials said, about three months after the remains of Boston nightclub owner Steven DiSarro were found in Providence. DiSarro disappeared in 1993.

DeLuca, 70, was the subject of an indictment last week that charges him with obstruction of justice and lying to federal investigators about the deaths of DiSarro, as well as other victims.

Prosecutors believe he was involved in some way in DiSarro's death and lied about his knowledge of the crime to FBI agents.

The accused mobster was ordered held without bail Monday and will appear in court Thursday to face extradition to Massachusetts.

The indictment, unsealed Monday, also said DeLuca cooperated with federal investigators five years ago in the prosecution of other organized crime figures.

"We look forward to the conclusion of the FBI's investigation so we can learn as much as possible about what really happened to Steven and finally get some closure for our family," widow Pamela DiSarro said in March.
