Dem ad ties GOP House candidates to Donald Trump's 'backwards' remarks

By Eric DuVall

WASHINGTON, May 27 (UPI) -- The campaign arm for Democrats in the House has unveiled a new attack ad, tying 15 of the most vulnerable Republicans to 'discriminatory' comments made by their party's presumptive nominee, Donald Trump.

The ad, dubbed "Building Blocks," shows Trump making controversial comments on a range of subjects, along with other House GOP leaders, echoing those sentiments on their own.

The new ad from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which will be shown on digital platforms, comes after their colleagues in the Senate launched a similar advertising effort, "The Party of Trump," seeking several of the 15 Republican-held seats in play this year to Trump's comments.

"Donald Trump has pulled back the curtain on House Republicans, revealing their long-held discriminatory and backwards positions that harm women, immigrants, Muslims, the LGBT community, and so many others," said DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján. "This digital ad campaign is the first of many connections we'll highlight between Donald Trump and House Republicans, and communicates directly with the Republican and independent women in key swing districts who are turned off by Trump and the direction of the Republican Party as a whole."

In its response, the National Republican Campaign Committee, which oversees House races for the GOP, did not release a statement about the ads, but did make a fundraising request online, asking donors to give money because "the DCCC just promised to spend [millions] spreading lies about our Republican candidates."

The DCCC said it would purchase a modest, five-figure ad buy online for the next two weeks to broadcast 30- and 60-second versions of the ad online in 15 districts.

The DCCC said the ad will target:

-- The GOP primary field in Arizona's 1st District. -- Rep. Mike Coffman, of Colorado's 6th District. -- Carlos Curbelo of Florida's 26th District. -- Rep. Rod Blum, of Iowa's 1st District. -- Bob Dold, of Illinois' 10th District. -- Bruce Poliquin, of Maine's 2nd District. -- The GOP primary field in Minnesota's 2nd District. -- Rep. Erik Paulsen, of Minnesota's 3rd District. -- Frank Guinta, of New Hampshire's 1st District. -- Scott Garrett, of New Jersey's 5th District. -- The GOP primary field in Nevada's 3rd District. -- Cresent Hardy, of Nevada's 4th District. -- John Katko, of New York's 24th District. -- Brian Fitzpatrick, of Pennsylvania's 8th District. -- Barbara Comstock, of Virginia's 10th District.
