JUNCTION CITY, Kan., May 26 (UPI) -- A large, extremely powerful tornado was reported in central Kansas Wednesday night, ripping up about 20 homes in Dickinson County, officials said.

The tornado tore through less populated areas between Abilene and Chapman, somehow sparing nearby towns, witnesses and officials said.

Up to a half-mile wide, the tornado was on the ground for at least an hour, the National Weather Service said.

Police said no injuries have so far been reported.

"The tornado itself is awe-inspiring and astonishing," said amateur storm chaser Morgan Lillich, "but the devastation left afterward will make your heart hurt."
