SARASOTA, Fla., May 23 (UPI) -- Seven people at Sarasota's Planned Parenthood building were taken to a hospital and 34 others evacuated, some suffering shortness of breath, possibly due to chemical fumes.

Hazmat crews found uncapped cleaning chemicals in the building.

Some people inside the building reported experiencing shortness of breath.

Seven people were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for evaluation, according to a Sarasota Fire Rescue spokesman.

Others were moved to an air-conditioned bus outside the building.

Two hazmat crews from Sarasota County Rescue and Southern Manatee responded.

They removed chemicals from the building. Crews also found some powdered baby food in a stairwell that investigators believe spilled while people were leaving the building.

"At Planned Parenthood our top priority is the safety of our patients and staff," Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida said in a statement. "Here in Florida and across the country, Planned Parenthood has strong security measures in place, works closely with law enforcement agencies, and has a very strong safety record."

A nearby school, Sarasota School of Arts, was placed on modified lockdown.
