Ninth victim dies after Texas charter bus crash

LAREDO, Texas, May 21 (UPI) -- Another person has died in the wake of a tour bus crash in Texas last week, bring the death toll to nine, police said.

The most recent victim was identified as Antanacio Almendares, 83, who died of multiple injuries sustained when the tour bus went off the road traveling north on I-83 outside Laredo, Texas, on May 14.

Seven others were killed instantly after being ejected from the bus as it rolled over during the crash. An eighth individual was found alive, but died later that day.

NBC News reports 40 others were injured as a result of the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. So far they have not identified the cause, though they did say the standard breaking system on the bus was fully operational. It was raining at the time of the crash.

The driver, Porfiro Aguirre Vasquez, 29, of Pharr, Texas, was among the injured, but survived the crash.

ABC News reports the bus was only equipped with four seat belts for seats in the first row.
