WASHINGTON, May 6 (UPI) -- The FBI interviewed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's closest aides, including Huma Abedin, in the probe of Clinton's use of a private email server.
Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, is expected to be interviewed in the coming weeks about her handling of sensitive government information transmitted through non-secure email while serving as the nation's top diplomat. Investigators have not found evidence Clinton knowingly broke the law, CNN reported.
Abedin, one of Clinton's closest confidantes, was interviewed in early April. It is not clear what questions she was asked.
Clinton said she has not been approached by the FBI to answer questions about her email use. Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said she has repeatedly offered to answer any FBI questions.
"From the start, Hillary Clinton has offered to answer any questions that would help the Justice Department complete its review, and we hope and expect that anyone else who is asked would do the same," he said. "We are confident the review will conclude that nothing inappropriate took place."
Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, said Clinton's "reckless" use of the server "underscores just how big of a risk a Hillary Clinton presidency truly is."
"These FBI interviews are another reminder of the gross negligence Hillary Clinton displayed as secretary of state when she set up an off-the-books email server that exposed classified information on thousands of occasions," he said.
The Department of Justice, in March, granted immunity to Bryan Pagliano, a former State Department staffer who helped set up Clinton's server.
Earlier this week, a federal judge suggested Clinton may be deposed regarding her use of the email in a freedom-of-information lawsuit about Abedin's employment. A lawsuit brought by Judicial Watch is seeking information about Abedin's consulting work while she was employed by the State Department.
