One dead, one injured in Arkansas plane crash

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark., May 6 (UPI) -- One person died and another person was injured when their twin-engine plane crashed near North Little Rock Municipal Airport in Arkansas.

The Cessna 310 burst into flames after crashing about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, officials said. It is not clear if the crash happened during take-off or landing. The six-person plane experienced crashed in an open field near the airport. The aircraft came close to water and fuel tanks at the Central Arkansas Water facility, where it eventually crashed.

Officials have not released the names of those involved in the crash, but said both are men. The plane was registered to Lashbrook Inc. of Sherwood, Ark. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

"It's a wonder anyone walked away from this. I don't even understand how anyone walked away from this. That pilot is extremely lucky," Fire Chief John Flasterer said about the surviving pilot.

The 673-acre airport was briefly closed during the investigation.
