Al Franken takes shot at Ted Cruz in comedic roast

By Eric DuVall

ST. PAUL, Minn., April 20 (UPI) -- Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., tossed some barbs at his Senate colleague and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz during a comedic roast event in his home state.

Franken, famously an alum of Saturday Night Live!, generally has maintained a low profile since being elected to the Senate in 2009. But when delivering a monologue at a roast organized by the website MinnPost.com alongside several other prominent politicians from Minnesota last week.

Franken quipped Republicans' "best hope for stopping Donald Trump is a guy who is the love child of Joe McCarthy and Dracula."

Franken then turned to Cruz's reputation as being generally disliked by his Senate colleagues.

"Ted Cruz can be really hard to get along with, but I understand that in a couple of weeks he's planning to launch a charm offensive. He's working on it. He's having a little trouble with the charm part but he's got the offensive part down cold."
