Washington psychiatric escapee captured, other still at large

LAKEWOOD, Wash., April 7 (UPI) -- Police on Thursday captured one of two escapee patients from a Washington state psychiatric hospital, authorities said.

The two men, Mark Alexander Adams, 59, and Anthony Garver, 28, were housed in the Western State Hospital's civil ward and escaped through an open window in their shared room Wednesday evening.

Hospital staff at the Lakewood, Wash., facility described the men as "dangerous to others."

Adams was captured Thursday morning, authorities said. Garver remains on the loose.

Garver was arrested in 2013 on a first-degree murder charge but was found not competent to stand trial. He was accused of gagging a woman, then stabbing her 24 times.

Adams was charged with domestic violence in 2014 and was also declared not fit to stand trial.

"This is serious business. These guys penetrated a secure window with intent to leave," a hospital source told KOMO-TV, Seattle.

Local transportation companies have been advised of the escape, and police advised anyone seeing Garver not to approach or contact him.

A Snohomish County judge described Garver as "scary, to say the least."
