Kellogg spokesman Kris Charles told WREG-TV in Memphis the video appeared to be shot in 2014 on a production line for Rice Krispies Treats, Rice Krispies Treats cereal and puffed rice cake products. The potentially affected items would by now be past their expiration dates.

"Kellogg takes this situation very seriously, and we were shocked and deeply disappointed by this video that we just learned of yesterday," a statement from the company said. "We immediately alerted law enforcement authorities and regulators. A criminal investigation is underway as well as a thorough internal investigation."

WREG reported the incident happened at the same time Kellogg was locked in a labor dispute with the workers union, causing some employees to be locked out.
