PALM BEACH, Fla., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A video of a man who caught a shark on the beach and pulled it out of the water for bystander selfies has ignited outrage on Facebook.
The video posted by by WPTV news anchor Ashleigh Walters also showed a man dragging the shark back to the ocean.
The incident provoked an angry reaction, coming just days after a baby dolphin died in Santa Teresita, Argentina, when a man captured it to take selfies.
The dolphin captured, which was a Franciscan, is a vulnerable species that is expected to decline in population over the next decades. Due to their body temperatures, it is fatal for dolphins to stay out of the water because they get overheated quickly.
Both incidents caught the attention of wildlife officials who explained the risks of taking selfies with animals.
"We've actually seen people using selfie sticks to try and get as close to the bears as possible, sometimes within 10 feet, " Brandon Ransom, a park manager in Denver, told the New York Daily News.
