DENVER, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- A San Diego-bound Alaskan Airlines was forced to make an unplanned stop to subdue an intoxicated passenger who had become unruly.

Flight 769, which had departed from Boston's Logan International Airport at 6:32 p.m. EST Tuesday, arrived safely at its destination about 45 minutes later than expected. The crew made an unplanned stop at Denver International Airport about 8:27 p.m. MST after the passenger caused a disturbance.

"He was told to calm down by flight crew, and then became agitated and verbally abusive, even issuing a threat to flight crew," airline spokeswoman Ann Zaninovich told NBC News.

The man was escorted off the plane by three Denver police officers, according to a video posted to Twitter by passenger Rebecca Shepard.

The other passengers continued their original route and landed at Lindbergh Field in San Diego without further incident at 10:25 p.m. PST.

Passenger Claire Conroy commented on Twitter: "Getting ready to head to CA. Again. Down one passenger. Loved that he thought the cops were his car service and asked to get his luggage home."
