Massachusetts bracing for blizzard conditions; N.H. could see light snow on primary day

BOSTON, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A winter storm is expected to bring 3 to 18 inches of snow throughout Massachusetts as neighboring New Hampshire could see some snow ahead of presidential primaries.

Blizzard conditions were expected in Cape Cod, southeastern Massachusetts and its islands. Many schools in the state, including those in Boston, Cambridge, Arlington, Chelsea, Salem and Barnstable said they would not be open on Monday.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker closed state offices in eastern Massachusetts for non-emergency personnel in anticipation of the storm. Some cities, including Somerville and Revere, may introduce snow emergencies and parking bans on Monday -- weather depending.

In Boston, where between 8 inches to 12 inches of snow is expected, the snow began falling between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. and the heaviest snowfall is predicted to fall between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m At least 200 flights have been canceled from Boston's Logan International Airport.

In New Hampshire, where presidential primaries are scheduled for Tuesday, a snow storm recently brought up to 10 inches of snow in some areas. A winter weather advisory is active throughout the state on Monday with the possibility of light snowfall through much of New Hampshire on Tuesday.

There is an 20 percent chance of precipitation on Tuesday in Manchester at a temperature of 29 degrees Fahrenheit. In Woodstock, there is a 20 percent chance of precipitation at 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

In New Hampshire's Pittsburg, there is a 50 percent chance of precipitation with at temperature of 23 degrees Fahrenheit -- where some snow showers are forecast.
