'Affluenza' teen Ethan Couch relocated to adult jail

FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- "Affluenza" teen Ethan Couch was moved to an adult jail facility after spending several days in a Texas juvenile detention center.

Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson said the 18-year-old is "quiet, soft-spoken and compliant," since returning to the United States after spending more than a month in Mexican custody.

Anderson said the move was to put Couch in a more secure detention facility and for his own protection.

Couch was moved from the Lynn W. Ross Juvenile Detention Center to the Lon Evans Corrections Center, local television reported.

Despite his change in housing arrangements, Couch is still under juvenile court jurisdiction until a decision is made by the judge at later court dates. He will be seen in court Feb. 12 and Feb. 19.

Couch killed four people in a drunk driving crash in 2013 and last year allegedly violated probation before fleeing to Mexico with his mother, Tonya Couch.

Last month, the teen's defense attorneys released a statement saying they expect the court to place Couch's probation to adult criminal jurisdiction.

"Under the law, the transfer will become effective upon Ethan's nineteenth birthday in April," they said.
