White House Christmas tree arrives from Pennsylvania

By Brooks Hays

WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Alongside family dogs Bo and Sunny, First Lady Michelle Obama greeted the White House Christmas tree. The official holiday fir was delivered via horse and buggy to the White House's North Portico.

The tree, a Fraser fir measuring 19 feet tall, will be erected in the Blue Room and decorated for the holiday season.

White House staff traveled to a farm in Lansdale, Pennsylvania to select the tree. Farm owners Jay and Glenn Bustard then made a trip to the White House to deliver the tree personally.

"They looked over four trees pretty thoroughly," Jay Bustard said in a press release. "Like most people, but maybe more so for them, they're very particular about the tree they want. I think they picked a great one."

"Members of the National Christmas Tree Association have presented the official White House Christmas Tree for display in the Blue Room since 1966," the White House said in a statement.
